A Glimpse into Our History
Injune has a rich history despite its young age. Established in 1920 as a camp at the end of the railway line to support the development of the Mount Hutton Lands Soldier Settlement blocks after World War I, Injune was gazetted as a town in 1922. Over the years, dairying, cotton, cattle, sheep, and the sustainable harvesting of natural timber cypress pine have been the main industries. Today, cattle and timber production continue to thrive. With the sealing of the road north to Rolleston, Injune has become the Gateway to the famous Carnarvon Gorge in the Carnarvon Ranges. More recently, the natural coal seam gas industry has enhanced retail and other services in Injune.
